MEP Barry Cowen visits Tullamore Veteran Support Centre

MEP Barry Cowen visited the Tullamore branch of the Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (ONE) at their newly established Veteran Support Centre in Arden View on Tuesday.

There, the Clara native met with members to discuss supports for Defence Forces veterans. The visit highlighted the importance of providing dedicated spaces for veterans to meet, access support and stay connected within their communities. The centre, which has been operating since January 2026 on a three-month trial basis, runs as a weekly drop-in service on Thursday mornings and is already supporting a growing number of local veterans.

“The work being done here in Tullamore is hugely important in supporting those who have served our country,” Cowen said.

“Providing a space for veterans to come together, access support and maintain connections is vital, and it is clear there is a strong need for this service locally.”

Members outlined their ambition to secure a permanent premises in Tullamore, in line with other ONE branches across the country, including in Athlone and Portlaoise. The current facility is being provided on a temporary basis, with funding support from the national organisation during the trial period.

The discussion focused on the next steps needed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the service and the potential supports that may be available to assist the group in establishing a permanent base in the town.
