Launch held of 'The Bog Walk' fundraiser in Pullough
There was a great turnout in Pullough on Easter Monday evening as St Mary's National School, together with its Parents Association, hosted a successful launch and information evening for a big upcoming fundraiser, The Bog Walk 2026.
The launch event welcomed past and present pupils, families, and members of the wider community, to hear more about the fundraising event, which is taking place in late May.
The strong attendance highlighted the deep sense of community support for St Mary’s NS, which is in its 90th academic year, having opened in 1935. It was fantastic to be joined by local men Jim Rosney and Sean Buckley, both of whom attended the school in its early years.
Arlene Lynam, Chair, Parents Association, shared information about The Bog Walk, a 25km walk being held on Sunday, May 31.
The flat and largely off-road route will take participants through the local boglands between Pullough and Lough Boora Discovery Park.
Participants will have the option to take part as an individual, either running or walking the route, or as part of a relay team. The route will consist of three stages, with the distance of the stages ranging from 7.5 to 9km and there are car parking facilities at each stage.
The organising committee expressed sincere thanks to everyone who attended the launch and extended its thanks to those already signed up for the event. With just seven weeks to go, the committee are encouraging past pupils of the school, families and members of the wider community to sign up.
Local businesses and organisations are also invited to get involved through sponsorship.
A range of sponsorship options are available, including sponsoring a kilometre on the route, and contributing towards refreshments and event materials. Sponsors will be acknowledged across event promotions, on the day itself, and through school and community channels.
The event promises to be a fantastic occasion for all in the community, with all funds raised for the continued development of the school, to support improvements to learning resources, outdoor facilities, and student wellbeing initiatives.
