Mitchell named on GAA.ie 'Team of the Week'

A scoring contribution of 1-3 from play has earned Offaly hurling captain Charlie Mitchell a place on the GAA.ie 'Team of the Week'.

The Kilcormac-Killoughey forward was named in the full forward line for Offaly's Leinster SHC draw with Dublin on Saturday evening.

The player's inclusion, following a heart related illness, proved a major boost for the Faithful County who almost secured an opening round robin win.

Mitchell was named Offaly captain for 2026, but was then diagnosed with myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart muscle.

It was unclear what role Mitchell could play for Johnny Kelly's charges in this year's championship campaign and supporters were surprised to see the corner forward start on the inside forward line on Saturday.

However, his scoring contribution, coupled with his workmanlike performance, has earned him a place on the GAA.ie 'Team of the Week' following the conclusion of the first round of Leinster SHC group fixtures.

Offaly travel west to play Galway in Pearse Stadium Salthill on Sunday, at 3.30pm.
