Birr venue set to host All-Ireland camogie finals
Grant Heating St Brendan's Park in Birr is set for large crowds this coming Saturday, as two showpiece All-Ireland camogie finals come to Offaly.
At 3pm, the eir Under-16 'A' final between Galway and Kilkenny will take place. This tournament's trophy has now been named The Kate Moran Cup to honour the memory of the late Kate Moran, who tragically passed away while in action for her club, Athenry, in 2022.
This match will be preceeded by the eir Under-16 'B' final between Westmeath and Kildare (1pm). The double-header will be streamed live on the Camogie Association’s YouTube channel.
Commenting on the naming of the 'A' championship trophy, Uachtarán an Chumainn Camógaíochta, Brian Molloy said: “The Camogie Association is proud to make this gesture, which we hope will honour Kate’s memory in a meaningful way. Kate’s love for camogie was clear to all who knew her, and her passion for the game left a lasting impression on her team-mates and community. Throughout Athenry’s All-Ireland winning campaign this past winter, I have no doubt that Kate was with them every step of the way, smiling down, pucking every ball alongside them, and sharing in those special moments. Her connection to the U16 grade, where she helped Galway to two All-Ireland titles, is fittingly recognised."
