Laois group to bring John B. Keane’s Moll to Birr
Fourth Wall Laois Theatre is preparing to bring John B. Keane’s Moll to Birr.
The play will be held in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on Saturday, May 9, with doors opening at 7.30om.
Directed by Kevin Lalor Fitzpatrick, Fourth Wall Laois Theatre take on John B. Keane’s Moll is a laugh-out-loud comedy that delivers a riotous night of pure Irish humour from start to finish.
Set in the wonderfully chaotic world of a rural presbytery, Moll throws open the door on parish life in the 1970s—where nothing runs smoothly and the housekeeper is very much in charge.
At the centre of the madness is the formidable Moll Kettle, a sharp-witted, no-nonsense woman who keeps her priests (and everyone else) firmly under control. Expect quick-fire wit, outrageous situations, clever scheming, and plenty of the kind of humour only John B. Keane could capture.
From mass cards to misunderstandings, power struggles to parish politics, the household of the Very Rev. Canon Pratt, Fr. Loran and Fr. Brest rarely enjoys a quiet moment, especially with Moll at the helm and the tea trolley never far away.
As Keane himself observed: “When a presbytery gets a new housekeeper, it becomes like a country that gets a change of government.” What follows is comic mayhem of the highest order.
Packed with warmth, mischief, and side-splitting moments, Moll is quintessential Irish comedy, fast, funny, and guaranteed to leave audiences in stitches.
Tickets are priced at €18/16, and can be purchased at https://www.birrtheatre.com/
