Tullamore Olympian to address Midlands EU conference
Tullamore Olympian Gráinne Walsh will be among the speakers at a European Parliament conference in The Mullingar Park Hotel on Friday, May 22.
Hosted by Midlands North-West MEP Ciaran Mullooly, the conference, entitled 'Empowering Women: Connecting and Shaping Future Policy', is aimed at empowering women, connecting leaders across sectors and helping shape future policy.
The Renew Europe MEP aims to bring together an inspiring group of women leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and advocates from across a diverse range of sectors including business, sport, fashion, health, and community development.
The conference, which will run from 10am to 2pm, aims to create a vibrant and inclusive platform where women can share insights, build meaningful connections, and motivate one another.
A central focus of the event is to encourage dialogue that contributes to shaping forward-looking policies that promote gender equality and empower women in all areas of society - networking and breakout sessions will be scheduled in to the day.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ciaran Mullooly MEP highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration and amplifying women’s voices:
“This conference is about creating space for meaningful conversations, sharing experiences, and ensuring that women play a central role in shaping the policies that affect their lives and communities.”
MC for the event will be Orla Thornton, Director of Marketing and Communications at TUS, Athlone.
Attendees will hear from an impressive line-up of speakers, including Anne Heraty, founder of the Cpl Group and former president of IBEC, Martina Earley, CEO of Roscommon Leader Partnership, Regina Bushell, President of the Athlone Chamber of Commerce and Managing Director at Grovelands Childcare.
Also speaking on the day will be Ashley McDonnell founder of Ireland Fashion Week, Tara Farrell CEO of Longford Womens Link and Dr Martina Roche of NUI Maynooth.
From the sporting sector, speakers include Olympian Gráinne Walsh, rugby star Anna McGann and local woman Sarah Dillon, a PhD researcher and GAA player.
The speakers will be joined on stage by Ursula Kelly Director of Operations at Cormac Tagging and Councillor Linda deCourcy to discuss the role of women in politics.
