More than one million illicit cigarettes seized in Offaly
Revenue has announced details of a large-scale seizure of illicit cigarettes in Offaly.
The seizure took place at a business premises in the county yesterday (Tuesday).
Revenue said that, as part of an intelligence-led operation, its officers, supported by An Garda Siochana, seized approximately 1.2 million cigarettes in total.
These were branded ‘Platinum’ and ‘Top Gun’, and their value is estimated at over €1.1 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €890,000.
Revenue added that its investigations into the seizure were ongoing.
The incident is part of its ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
