Spirit of the Cauldron sculpture unveiled in Geashill

A new public sculpture celebrating local heritage and community spirit was officially unveiled in Geashill last week.

The Spirit of the Cauldron sculpture, now installed on The Green in the village, has already become a striking focal point, with water flowing gently from the cauldron over carved stonework while light filters through intricate metal figures.

The artwork was officially launched by Cllr Liam Quinn of Edenderry Municipal District and was supported through the Creative Ireland programme in Offaly County Council.

The project represents four years of collaboration between stone carver Ciaran Byrne, weld artist Luke Carson, the Wednesday Club, Geashill Tidy Towns and the wider local community.

Inspired by the historic Geashill Cauldron, which is housed in the National Museum, the sculpture aims to reconnect the village with an important part of its heritage.

While the original cauldron remains in the museum collection, organisers said its spirit has now been “well and truly restored” to the heart of Geashill.
