Offaly hospice calls for support for on-street collections

The Offaly Hospice Foundation has today (Thursday, May 28) called on the public to come out in its numbers to support its on-street collections from June 11 to June 13.

Mary Murphy, speaking on behalf of the Offaly foundation, said it is vitally important that the public respond to the upcoming collections.

“With just a few days to go until the on-street collections, betwen Thursday, June 11 and Saturday, June 13, we are calling on the public to support Offaly Hospice Foundation by purchasing some sunflower merchandise from our volunteers to help raise vital funds. There is also the opportunity for the public to donate online via the website, www.sunflowerdays.ie, with all funds raised going toward your chosen hospice or homecare service.”

Now in its 36th year, the final countdown is now underway for Together for Hospice, the national hospice movement’s Sunflower Day campaign.

People can support Offaly Hospice Foundation by purchasing some of the fantastic sunflower merchandise that volunteers will be selling in towns across the county. There is also still time for schools, pre-schools, creches and montessori’s to get involved by hosting a Sunflower Fun Day during June with registration still open on the website.

Together for Hospice represents 24 hospice and specialist palliative homecare providers supporting patients and their families across Ireland. These services provide free-of-charge care and support to those living with a life-limiting illness, while also offering assistance to the patient’s family members. Hospices nationwide need to raise approximately €20 million each year to provide their patient centred care.

Fundraised income is used by local hospice services to fund new buildings, refurbishment of existing buildings, staff, extra comforts for patients and families, and patient care projects nationwide. Funds raised through Together for Hospice campaigns support some of the core services funded by the HSE.

Speaking about the upcoming on-street collections, Miriam O’Callaghan, Hospice Sunflower Day Ambassador, said: “I would encourage everyone to help make a difference by purchasing some sunflower merchandise or donating online via the website. All funds raised locally, stays locally, so your support really does impact local palliative care services.”
