Offaly para-cyclist to compete in European Road Championships

Mountbolus cyclist Sinéad Greenan is one of 12 para cyclists who will represent Ireland at the UEC European Road Championships in Maniago and Montereale Valcellina, Italy, this weekend.

Greenan, who is visually impaired, and her partner, Paris 2024 Olympian Alice Sharpe, are members of the Irish para-cycling development squad who will compete in road and time trial events over the course of the championships.

The pair won medals in two tandem events, a 30km time trial and 91km road race, at the 2026 Para Cycling Road World Cup in Gistel, Belgium, at the start of May.

Racing starts in northern Italy on Friday, June 12, with individual time trials followed by road racing on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14.

Cycling Ireland para-coach Jamie Blanchfield welcomed the return European Championship action for the 12 Irish athletes.

“We’re pleased to announce a team that brings together a strong mix of experienced athletes and emerging talent for the upcoming European Championships.

"The event represents another major target for the programme this season and marks a welcome return to European road racing after a couple of years away.

"We know the venue well and have enjoyed success there in the past. We’re excited to see this group continue to build momentum on the international stage," Blanchfield said.
