Esker Arts to host special screening of Nick Kelly film

Esker Arts Centre will host a special screening of Nick Kelly's film 'The Song Cycle' on Wednesday, June 17.

The film follows Kelly’s attempt to cycle from Ireland to perform at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival, accompanied by musician Seán Millar, who travels separately by public transport and joins him for performances along the route.

The musician and filmmaker will be in attendence at the Esker Arts screening, travelling with his bicycle and guitar to introduce the film and take part in an audience Q&A session.

'The Song Cycle' has previously screened at festivals including the Galway Film Fleadh, where it won Best Independent Film, and the IFI Documentary Festival, where it received the Audience Choice Award.

Speaking about the project, Kelly said: “This started out as a project around environmental sustainability, but as I watched the footage back, I started to realise that this could also be a film about sustainability in a broader sense – how do we manage to keep going and stay relevant as artists and humans as we age (especially if we’ve somehow tragically not managed to become Bruce Springsteen).”

The screenings are supported by Screen Ireland’s Direct Distribution Fund and access>Cinema
