Offaly dog is 'Golden Oldie' winner at Petmania awards
Offaly celebrated success at the second annual Petmania Ruby Heart Awards, with local favourite Buster Dunican recognised among Ireland's most inspiring pets, animal advocates, rescue organisations and pet-friendly businesses.
After receiving more than 700 nominations from across the country, just 30 finalists representing 15 counties were selected to attend the national awards ceremony in Kilkenny.
Hosted by broadcaster, sustainability influencer and DJ Fionnuala Moran, the awards celebrated the extraordinary impact animals have on people's lives and recognised the dedicated people, organisations and communities working tirelessly to improve animal welfare across Ireland.
Offaly's Buster Dunican was named winner of the Golden Oldie Award, sponsored by Whimzees. Affectionately known as Boo, Buster has been a beloved member of his family since arriving as a timid rescue dog more than a decade ago.
Despite facing health challenges and the loss of several animal companions over the years, Buster continues to embrace life with enthusiasm and resilience. His loyalty, loving nature and enduring spirit made him a standout winner in this year's awards.
Tracey Dunican, Buster’s owner, commented: "To see Buster take home the Golden Oldie Award is the ultimate celebration of his 12 years of love and resilience. He brought the ‘click-clack’ back to a quiet home when we needed it most. We have accepted this award with immense pride, sharing the moment with everyone who voted, his furry sister and his three furry siblings cheering him on from above."
The recognition places Offaly among just eight counties represented among the national winners at this year's awards.
The Petmania Ruby Heart Awards continue to provide a platform for recognising the animals, individuals, organisations and businesses whose actions strengthen communities and improve the lives of pets throughout Ireland.
