Mucklagh school gets nod to invite tenders for extension
Fine Gael TD Deputy John Clendennen has warmly welcomed the confirmation that St Colman’s National School in Mucklagh has received official approval from the Department of Education and Youth to proceed to tender for a significant extension project.
The approved works at the Mucklagh school include the construction of three new Special Education tuition rooms. This development is part of the Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme and will be delivered via a devolved mechanism, allowing the school to lead the project locally.
Deputy Clendennen described the announcement as a welcome addition to what has been an exceptionally positive week for educational infrastructure in Offaly.
“This is a particularly good week for the advancement of educational facilities in Offaly. We have seen three separate schools receive permission to proceed to tender within a matter of days, representing a massive step forward for our local school communities,” Deputy Clendennen stated.
In addition to the progress for St Colman’s National School in Mucklagh, this week has also seen approval to move to tender confirmed for Gortnamona National School and Dunkerrin National School for their respective projects.
Deputy Clendennen emphasised the importance of these investments in Special Education facilities.
“The provision of three dedicated Special Education tuition rooms at St Colman’s is a vital investment. It ensures that we are providing the best possible environment for all our students, tailored to their specific needs. I want to commend the Principal, the Board of Management, and the entire school community in Mucklagh for their persistence and dedication in bringing this project to this crucial stage.
“Having three major projects in Offaly move to the tender stage simultaneously is a testament to the ongoing commitment to upgrading our rural and regional schools. I am delighted to have worked closely with Minister Naughton to ensure these projects remain a priority. I’d also like to particularly thank Cllr Neil Feighery for his dedication to the progress of the project at St Colman’s. I look forward to seeing contractors on-site and the completion of these much-needed facilities. I’ll continue to engage with all stakeholders on the advancement of additional school accommodation projects across the county,” concluded Clendennen.
