Mucklagh centre’s 10th anniversary event to take place this Sunday

Mucklagh Community Centre will mark its 10th anniversary with a free family event this Sunday, June 28, at 2pm.

The celebration will feature a live performance from renowned local band Ruaile Buaile, along with an appearance by entertainer Evan, who specialises in mind-reading.

A range of activities is planned throughout the afternoon, including a puppet show and a science show hosted by Jay Ryan, face painting, a colouring competition, and an art exhibition. A collection of photographs and memories from the past decade will also be on display.Mucklagh Community Development CLG was established in 2009 with the aim of developing a community centre for the village.

The centre officially opened in 2016 following fundraising efforts, community support, and the donation of the site by the late Rev. David Hutton Bury, who turned the first sod in 2013.

Since opening, the centre has become a focal point for local activity, hosting programmes across sport, fitness, arts, education and social engagement.

Regular activities include basketball, badminton, walking soccer, chair pilates, activator pole classes, parent and toddler groups, active age initiatives, coffee mornings, arts and crafts, and music lessons.

Facilities on site include meeting rooms, office space, a tea room, catering facilities, and a multi-purpose sports hall.Chairperson John Cotter paid tribute to volunteers, staff, funders and supporters who have contributed to the centre’s development over the past decade.

"None of this would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of so many people," he said.

"The centre was built by the community, for the community, and it continues to thrive because of the support it receives every day. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and excited about what the future holds."

"Over the last decade we have seen the centre become the hub of Mucklagh," John added.

"Every week people come through our doors to participate in activities, meet friends, learn new skills and access important services. The friendships formed here and the positive impact on people's lives are what make this centre so special."

The centre says ongoing projects aim to improve accessibility, sustainability and recreational opportunities, ensuring it continues to serve the community into the future.
