Plans lodged for more than 80 new homes in Edenderry area
Planning applications have been lodged for two housing developments in the Edenderry area which, if both are approved, would result in the creation of 81 new residential units.
The separate planning applications, which were both submitted to Offaly County Council this month, propose the development of 66 new homes in Monasteroris and 15 houses at Blundell Avenue in the town.
Brereton Building Services Ltd, which has submitted plans for the 66 proposed housing units at Monasteroris, said the development, in an "established" residential area, would provide a "contemporary housing scheme suited to the future growth of Edenderry".
In its detailed planning submission, the applicant said the proposed project offers a "mix of high-quality residential development within the environs of Edenderry town".
The 66 proposed dwellings comprise a mix of one bed, two bed, three bed and four bed detached, semi-detached, terrace dwellings and maisonettes, "reflecting the mix of house types in the area".
The development site is located on lands adjoining the inner relief road within the development boundary of Edenderry, which Brereton Building Services said provides "safe and convenient pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular access".
Connection to existing public sewers via an on-site temporary treatment system, access from the Edenderry inner relief road, internal access roads and footpaths, boundary treatments, landscaping and all ancillary site services are also included in the developer's proposed plans.
Offaly County Council is expected to make a decision on the planning application by August 12.
Meanwhile, Kate Kenny submitted a planning bid with the council this month for the 15 house development at Blundell Avenue.
This project proposes the development of 11 two-bedroom terraced residential units, two three-bedroom semi-detached dwellings and two two-bedroom semi-detached properties.
The proposed site is located within the southern section of Edenderry town centre, situated to the rear of the primary commercial streetscape along JKL Street.
An architectural design statement submitted with the planning application said the presence of a public car park and children’s playground directly opposite the proposed development site contributed to the "civic and community character" of the area.
The detailed statement also outlined an "identified need within Edenderry for smaller residential units, particularly two-bedroom dwellings, within walking distance of the town core".
The council's planning decision on the 15 proposed homes at Blundell Avenue is due to be made by August 4.
