'Tribes' challenge raises €40,000 for Croghan school

The spirit of community was on full display throughout the Croghan area in June as families, friends and local businesses came together to support a 'Gathering of the Tribes – Paint Our School' fundraiser.

By the time the campaign concluded, more than €40,000 had been raised to improve Scoil Bhríde's building and grounds.

Organised jointly by the school's board of management and parents' association, the fundraiser divided the community into three friendly rival tribes – The Greens, The Blues and The Reds.

Participants earned points by walking, with every kilometre completed contributing to their tribe's total, while sponsorship and donations helped boost the fundraising effort.

Local businesses played a vital role through generous sponsorship, while colourful scarecrows dressed in tribe colours appeared throughout the area, adding to the fun and community spirit.

The event also received support from prominent personalities such as singer-songwriter Tom Grennan, comedian Karl Spain, Olympian Jordan Conroy, and actor-comedian Joe Rooney.

The fundraiser concluded with a community climb of Croghan Hill, followed by refreshments at the school.

The atmosphere was one of celebration and achievement as the final scores were revealed and the winning tribe was announced. Trophies were presented to the victorious team, bringing a fitting conclusion to almost a month of friendly competition, community spirit and remarkable fundraising efforts.

However, the greatest victory belongs to the pupils of the school. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of the wider community, they will return in September to a brighter, fresher and revitalised school environment that everyone can be proud of.

For a school with just 74 pupils, raising over €38,000 exceeded all expectations. The Scoil Bhríde Croghan board of management and parents' association thanked everyone who donated, sponsored, volunteered and participated.
