Live Register in Ireland increased by 400 in June 2026, CSO finds

The seasonally adjusted Live Register in Ireland increased by 400 people in June 2026, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The Live Register is a monthly statistics series by the CSO, counting the number of people under the age of 65 registered for things like Jobseeker’s Benefit, Jobseeker's Pay Related Benefit, and many other state entitlements that can be found at Department of Social Protection offices.

The Live Register total stood at 176,935 people in June 2026, of this number were 54.3% male and 72.3% were Irish. The most common age group was 25-34, which was 42,864 people or 24.2% of the total amount.

When it came to the counties seeing the hisgghest increases of people on the Live Register in June were Waterford (+6.8%) and Longford (+6.7%), with the largest decreases being in Monaghan (-4.8%) and Clare (-3.9%).

Conor Delves, Statistician in the Labour Market Analysis Section, said: “The unadjusted Live Register total for June 2026 was 176,935. The seasonally adjusted Live Register total for June 2026 was 172,600, or 400 more people than in May 2026.

“There were 11,748 people benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for June 2026, which was 97 fewer people than in May 2026.

“The counties that recorded the largest percentage decreases in numbers on the Live Register in the 12 months to June 2026 were Monaghan, down 96 people (-4.8%) and Clare, down 144 people (-3.9%). The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases were Waterford, up 366 people (+6.8%), and Longford, up 134 people (+6.7%)

“The number of people on the Live Register for one year or more in June 2026 was 54,477, which was 1,747 fewer people (-3.1%) than in June 2025. In June 2026, there were 122,458 people on the Live Register for less than one year, which was 6,019 more people (+5.2%) than in June 2025.”
