Total Eclipse of the Heart singer Bonnie Tyler has died

Singer Bonnie Tyler, best known for her 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," has died aged 75, confirmed in a statement on her website.

​She died “unexpectedly in a hospital in Portugal while being treated for an illness, her family said in a statement on Bonnie’s website.

​Bonnie was due to perform multiple shows this year, but these were all cancelled when she was taken to the hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, for surgery in May.

​Born in Skewen, Wales, in 1951, she had become one of the country's most distinctive voices, gaining massive worldwide success with "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which gave her a number-one single.

​The statement on her website said: “Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in a hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.

"We will issue a further statement shortly, but for now, ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”
