Production in the manufacturing industry down by 32.5%, figures show
In Quarter 1 2026, Domestic production in the manufacturing industries was down by 32.5%, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Between Q1 2025 and the same period in 2026, domestic production in the manufacturing industries fell by 33%.
In the month of March 2026, domestic production in the manufacturing industries increased by 24.8%. On an annual basis, domestic production in manufacturing industries was 36.6% lower in March 2026.
Gregg Patrick, Statistician in the Enterprise Statistics Division of the CSO said: “The CSO is today publishing a Domestic Industrial Production Index release for the sixth time. This Frontier Series release on the Domestic Production Index gives an overview of domestic manufacturing activity within Ireland and is published quarterly. This release complements the existing monthly Industrial Production and Turnover Index, which describes all industrial production attributable to Ireland. This Frontier Series release focuses only on what is being produced domestically in Ireland by excluding the parts of production which take place outside of Ireland as a result of outsourcing or contract manufacturing.
Overall, domestic production in manufacturing industries decreased by 32.5% from January to March (Q1) 2026 when compared with the previous three-month period of October to December (Q4) 2025. Between Q1 2025 and Q1 2026, domestic production in manufacturing industries fell by 33.3%. In March 2026, domestic production in manufacturing industries rose by 24.8% in the month, while on an annual basis it went down by 36.6%.
