Offaly children to celebrate Harry Potter's birthday at Edenderry library

Young Offaly fans of the Harry Potter series will gather together on Friday, July 31 to celebrate the fantasy novel/movie character's supposed birthday.

Fans from around the world usually gather on this date every year, believing July 31 is the exact date on which he was born, a date of birth he shares with the Harry Potter author, JK Rowling.

The occasion is usually tied to events worldwide, as its supporters pay homage to the mystical character.

And it will be no different in Offaly, as Edenderry library puts on a series of events on Friday, July 31, that encourage children to 'dust off the cloaks and wands' and celebrate Harry's birthday in style.

Throughout the day, the library is expected to be a hive of activity through a series of events. A DIY Magic Bookmark Station will be in operation at the library throughout the day, and Witches & Wizards Story-time (for children under six) takes place at 11am.

At 12.30pm, a potion making workshop (7+ years) will commence, and a wand making workship (6+ years) is to be held at 3.30pm. All those attending will also be taking part in the all-day Fancy Dress competition. Two of the events – the potion making and wand making workshops – require pre-booking.
