Successful children's author to visit 'Comic Con' in Tullamore

Offaly born author Christopher Galvin, who has received glowing praise for his debut children's novel published earlier this year, will be visiting Tullamore library this weekend, as Offaly Libraries hosts its 'Comic Con' event.

Christopher, from Croghan, has risen to prominence in the literary world after his novel 'The Thing About Giants', which mixes folklore, fantasy and adventure, was published by Walker Books, following a hotly-contested five-way auction among publishers.

On Saturday, September 12, he will host a special reading and chat about 'The Thing About Giants' from 12noon to 1pm.

Offaly Libraries has encouraged people to attend the event whether a young reader, lifelong book lover, or simply curious to learn more about the story.

Copies of the book are also available to borrow from Tullamore library and can be picked up before the event.

Christopher's book is published by Walkers and available in Ireland, UK, USA and Europe. It was launched in Chapters bookstore in Dublin in early June and has already garnered huge reaction.

It was also showcased at an event, hosted by Croghan Community Development Group, with St Brigid’s GAA, in July.

Christopher is son of Bridie and the late Joe Galvin. A former pupil of Croghan NS and St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rochfortbridge, Christopher’s passion for film and television led him to study scriptwriting, acting and directing, with several of his short films being presented in festivals around the world.

He currently works in television as a presentation editor. 'The Thing About Giants' is his debut novel, and was described by Patricia Forde, Irish Children’s Laureate, as “a stunning debut - crackles with myth and magic. A triumph!"

It was also Hodges Figgis and Eason children’s book of the month for June.
