Local singer-songwriter set to release new single

Tullamore singer-songwriter Hubert Murray is releasing his latest single on Friday, October 2.

‘To Kill A Robin Bird’ is the second single from his forthcoming debut album, Riots of Insanity. Written around the mythical image of a robin plucking a thorn from Jesus' crown and comforting him in his final hours, the song is a dark electronic folk track about innocence, compassion and violence.

“The song casts a gentle creature into a painful world, and killed for his comforting of an outcast. After I had written it I couldn't get the idea of Harper Lee's Tom Robinson out of my head, so I thought it fitting to pay homage to a classic,” Hubert explained.

The track marks Hubert's departure from bluegrass and developing his voice as a singer songwriter. To Kill A Robin Bird is part of his all-electric debut album - Riots of Insanity - where the online world spills into the real world causing a dystopian dream, where one longs to break free or dive in.

Hubert Murray’s songs feature lost loves, inner demons, compulsive liars and day dreamers, rounded out with a masterful hand over the fretboard. His sound bows a head to the masters of melody and word like John Martyn, Beck, Laura Malring and Jeff Buckley.
