Profile of a Parkrunner: Meet Laura
Meet Laura Pentony McKeon from Edenderry, as she prepares to complete her 100th parkrun at Mountlucas parkrun.
When did you first complete a parkrun?
I completed my first parkrun at the very first parkrun in Mountlucas on 1st July 2017. I've been taking part on a regular basis since then.
What is your favourite thing about parkrun?
My favourite thing about parkrun is getting to meet new people every week and all the regulars who come from different backgrounds and different localities but no one is ever a stranger.
How does it feel to have completed almost 100 parkruns?
Getting so close to my 100th parkrun is a great achievement in itself but a bigger honour was to be asked to become one of the event's Run Directors. I've been a regular volunteer at the parkrun for many years but I've recently taken on the role of Run Director, the person who oversees the running of a weekly event.
What is your favourite parkrun memory?
My favourite parkrun memory is travelling to London to meet my sister Martina who flew in from Australia to complete the Bushy Park parkrun where it originally started. It is quite different to Mountlucas parkrun as it's average weekly attendance is 1500 people!
What words would you use to describe Mountlucas parkrun?
Mountlucas Parkrun is unique as it is set amongst the wind turbines and it is a family in itself and my go to for a Saturday morning.
Mountlucas parkrun takes place at Bord na Móna Mountlucas windfarm every Saturday morning at 9.30am sharp. There's something for everyone at Mountlucas parkrun whether you want to walk, run, volunteer or just meet new people. Parkrun isn’t just a timed run: it’s about community, inclusivity, and wellbeing. Every event at Mountlucas brings together people of all ages and abilities, creating a warm, encouraging atmosphere. Whether you’re walking your first 5 km or picking up your 50th, Mountlucas parkrun offers something for everyone.
