Two killed in workplace incident in Banagher

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is investigating a workplace incident at an industrial premises in Banagher, which saw two people fatally injured on Monday morning.

A statement issued by the Garda press office confirmed that the Gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal workplace accident at an industrial premises in Banagher, on Monday, September, 28, at approximately 11.40am.

'Two people, a male (aged in his 50's) and a female (aged in her 20's) were pronounced deceased at the scene. Their bodies remain at the scene.

'A post-mortem examination will take place at Tullamore General Hospital at a later date and the coroner has been notified.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified'.

Offaly Fianna Fáil TD Tony McCormack said he was "deeply saddened" to hear of the tragic news in Banagher.

"My thoughts are first and foremost with the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives. I can only imagine the shock and heartbreak they are experiencing today.

"I am also thinking of their friends, work colleagues and the wider Banagher community at this incredibly difficult time.

"My deepest sympathies go to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy," Deputy McCormack said.
