Watermains replacement work concludes in Birr

Uisce Éireann's watermain replacement project in the Orchard Lane area has now come to an end, bringing relief to the residents and those who work there.

The project was carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, and involved the replacement of almost 200m of ageing watermains along Orchard Lane. The upgrade has strengthened the local water network, reduced leakage and is expected to provide a more dependable water supply for homes and businesses in the area.

Welcoming the completion of the works, Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "This project is a good example of how targeted investment can make a real difference for local communities. By replacing ageing watermains in Orchard Lane, we have strengthened the network, reduced leakage and improved the reliability of water supplies for local homes and businesses.

"These improvements will help protect valuable, treated drinking water and support a more resilient water network for the community for many years to come."

The National Leakage Reduction Programme is targeting water leakage around Ireland, which has more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationally. The programme has helped plug the national leakage from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
