Mountlucas parkrun prepares to mark landmark 400th event

A free 5km event will mark almost a decade of running, walking and volunteering at the Mountlucas parkrun this weekend, as its 400th wind farm parkrun takes place at Ballycon on Saturday (October 24, 9.30am).

The organisers of the community event are inviting runners, walkers, volunteers, families and supporters from across Offaly and beyond to join them for the milestone occasion.

Since the first event in 2017, Mountlucas parkrun has gone from strength to strength, with over 280 people having volunteered to create a welcoming, community-focused weekly event.

The 400th event will be an opportunity to celebrate everyone who has contributed to Mountlucas parkrun over the past nine years. To make the morning even more memorable, participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt at the finish line, with refreshments available following the event.

Brendan Connolly, BnM, said: “Reaching the 400th Mountlucas Wind Farm parkrun is a fantastic milestone, demonstrating valuable community role played by the amenities on BnM’s wind farms. The commitment of the volunteers in particular has been remarkable, and this milestone belongs to every person who has played a part over the past nine years. We would love to see regular participants, former participants, and plenty of new faces join us on October 24. You don’t have to be an experienced runner – just come along to walk, jog, run, volunteer or support and help us make the 400th event a morning to remember.”
