Fundraiser Gig for Gaza this Saturday in Tom's Bakery, Tullamore
by Ibrahim Tariq
Tullamore for Gaza, a local group set up in solidarity with the people of Gaza two years ago, is holding an acoustic music fundraiser this Saturday, November 22, at 7pm in Tom's Bakery, Tullamore.
Tom McNamara, owner of the cafe, is well-known for his support for this cause, already donating 10% of all profits from his cafe to the children of Gaza through UNICEF and Palestinian Red Crescent.
Tullamore for Gaza approached Tom a number of months ago about holding a fundraiser gig in the cafe in aid of Palestine Aid Ireland, who are fundraising for a mobile maternity unit. This will be the third mobile maternity unit built with Palestine Aid Ireland support. These are urgently needed as Gaza's healthcare infrastructure lies in ruins, following two years of targeted attacks from Israel.
The varied line up for the Gig for Gaza includes Hubert Murray, Dubh Lee, Jack Keeshan, Aoise O'Dwyer, Fiona Dunkin, Dave Hawkins, Sarah Carroll, Emmet Breathnach and Caren Finnegan.
Organiser with Tullamore for Gaza, Clare McEnroe, said: "We really encourage the people of Tullamore to come out to our Gig for Gaza this Saturday night. It's in aid of such an important cause. We know that women are giving birth in the tent, on the street, with little to no medical supplies, and often no anesthesia. It is a truly barbaric situation. A third mobile maternity unit will make such a difference to the experience and, even, survival of these women and their newborn babies. Please come out to what promises to be a wonderful night of music in Tom's Bakery in Tullamore."
Tickets are €10 full price and €7 concession, available on Eventbrite, or on the door. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available on the night, with proceeds going to the mobile maternity unit. Attendees are also permitted to BYOB, if they wish.
