Scoil Shinchill Killeigh receives extension works approval
Scoil Shinchill, Killeigh has received formal approval for significant capital works under the Department of Education’s Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme.
Confirming the announcement, Fine Gael Deputy John Clendennen said the approved project will consist of a substantial extension to the school, including three Special Education Needs (SEN) classrooms, one additional mainstream classroom and refurbishment works to support the expanded accommodation and enhance existing facilities.
Deputy Clendennen stated that the investment reflects the Department’s continued commitment to ensuring that schools have the space and resources needed to support high-quality education for every child.
“Having recently visited the school and met with Principal Sandra Sheeran and the teaching staff, I saw first-hand the urgency and the clear need for this investment. I’ll continue working closely with local Fine Gael Councillor, Neil Feighery, the school community and the Department of Education to ensure this vital project progresses without delay.
“This really is excellent news for the entire Scoil Shinchill community. The sanctioning of these additional classrooms, particularly the three new SEN rooms, will greatly strengthen the school’s capacity to meet the educational needs of all students. I’m delighted to see this important project move forward," the Deputy said.
This approval follows on from last week’s announcement that Scoil Shinchill will also benefit from the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, which will support upgrades aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing the school’s environmental footprint.
“With both the ASA project and the recent Climate Action funding, Scoil Shinchill is entering a period of significant development. These investments will deliver a modern, sustainable and inclusive learning environment for the Killeigh community for years to come.
“That being said, I am more than aware that there are numerous other school projects across the county that also need to see progress. I am continuing to advocate for and to work with all involved to make advancements,” Deputy Clendennen concluded.
