Edenderry Light Up Run to raise funds for worthy cause

An annual festive tradition, the Edenderry Light Up Run returns on Saturday, December 6, as an expected 250 tractors and trucks clad in Christmas lights drive through the county in aid of Laois Offaly Families For Autism (LOFFA).

Now in its eighth year, the fundraising event continues to raise money for local charities and in 2025 all donations will go to the parent-run volunteer support group for families of children and young adults with an autism diagnosis.

To date, the Edenderry Light Up Run has raised more than €50,000 for local causes.

The parade of tractors and trucks will start their festive journey at the Edenderry Business Campus at Monasteroris, travel along the new Inner Relief Road to Tesco before passing through the centre of the town. From there, the parade will track towards Daingean, before visiting Croghan and Rhode where onlookers will be able to view a cavalcade of vehicles aglow with festive lighting.

In a social media post, a spokesperson for the Edenderry Light Up Run said the event was "more than a convoy, it’s a community tradition".

"Every light, every horn, every smile supports Laois Offaly Families for Autism, empowering families and children across our county. This year for our eighth annual run we hope to raise over €10,000 in one night. Together, we light up lives".

Edenderry will also welcome the Santa Truck to the town on Wednesday, December 10.

In association with the Laura Lynn Foundation, the Santa Truck will make its maiden visit to the town arriving at Edenderry GAA at 6pm.

The Edenderry Light Up committee are encouraging all children in the community to come and visit Santa in his festive grotto.

"There’s no entry charge, just donations welcomed on the night, with all proceeds going directly to the Laura Lynn Foundation. Let’s fill the evening with sparkle, smiles, and support for a wonderful cause," a committee spokesperson said.
