Rahan school unveils brand new wall mural

Rahan 's Scoil Charthaigh Naofa have unveiled s colourful mural painted by artist Shane Turner.

The mural depicts founder of the Presentation Sisters, Nano Nagle, with various local landmarks such as the Rahan bridge and local churches. Images of herons, cows, sheep, butterflies and bees further enhance the bright design.

Teacher, Leanne Troy, who organised and coordinated the project made a short speech at the launch event, thanking local priest Fr. Michael Whittaker for attending to bless the mural, artist Shane Turner for his wonderful work and KMK Metals Recycling for their sponsorship.

Principal Emmett Breathnach led the school children in a rousing rendition of ‘Siúil I Solas Dé’, which has become the school song and motto.

Some of the pupils presented a special project they had completed about the mural and its origins and another presented Joanne Burke from KMK Metals Recycling, with a black lantern containing a candle inscribed with the words of the motto.

Joanne Burke, KMK Metals Recycling, commented: “The mural looks brilliant, so eye catching as you drive up to the school. Shane is such a talented artist and has done a marvellous job.

"We were very happy to get involved through sponsorship. KMK Metals Recycling is a family business and the three youngest members of the family attend Scoil Charthaigh Naofa, so it was great to have the opportunity to do something that will have a positive lasting impact for the school."
