Basketball success for Coláiste Naomh Cormac students
The senior boys' basketball team completed their basketball season in style winning the U19 Midlands Plate Final in St. Mary’s Hall Portlaoise, the home of National League side Portlaoise Panthers.
The team quickly found their rhythm with early scores from Eamonn Molloy, Luke Bracken and James Hennessy and an assist from Oliver Young, finishing the first quarter with a narrow two point lead.
Cian Dillon and Tomás Carroll came on to build momentum and stretch their lead, pulling away 25-5 by the end of the second quarter. Séan Gill and Cormac Nugent kept the pressure on offence while Máirtín Ryan was incredible on defence.
Time and again the Oaklands attack was shut down by Máirtín who racked up a number of steals as well as adding his name to the scoresheet.
With Eamonn Molloy and Cian Dillon pulling the strings on the offensive end, Cormac Nugent denied Oaklands an easy path to the basket and kept the pressure on offence while Michael Kilmartin racked up a couple of assists.
They delivered a dominant team performance in the final quarter, securing a 33-23 victory.
A deserving result for the fantastic squad who worked so hard to bring a basketball title back to Kilcormac!
