Lloyd Park Tullamore receives An Taisce Green Flag award

The Municipal District of Tullamore has secured its 10th consecutive An Taisce Green Flag Awards in recognition of Lloyd Park.

The Green Flag Award Scheme is the mark of quality parks and green space and is recognised throughout the world.

The programme assesses across eight key headings, with an emphasis on environmental management. Both a site-specific management framework and an annual condition inspection is conducted through a panel of qualified judges.

The judging panel highlighted the numbers visiting the park and noted the large number of families using the park which they stated was presented in a very clean and well-maintained manner.

Other features complemented by the judges included the excellent signposting, orientation maps and helpful information boards on flora and fauna.

The wide variety and inclusive nature of the large variety of playground and exercise equipment, and the inclusion of both a basketball court and the skateboard park within the park were complemented by the judges.

Together with large open green spaces, woodland, excellent water feature and a bandstand the judges were impressed by how much was on offer for all age groups in a town-centre park.

Cllr Declan Harvey, Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District at the flag raising ceremony acknowledged all those involved in maintaining the park and keeping it at such a high standard.

He thanked Tullamore Municipal District’s Park Caretaker, David Carroll and all the Tullamore Municipal District staff who, with support from Tullamore Tidy Towns, have managed to have the park presented in a top-class manner throughout the year.

Cllr Harvey acknowledged the funding provided by The Department of Children, Disability and Equality, which has allowed the Municipal District to install a new large interactive play tower and slide in Lloyd Park and welcomed the developments that are happening at Connolly Park, including a new entrance to improve accessibility and a significant investment in new equipment.

Paul McLoughlin, Director of Services for the Municipal District, thanked all involved in securing each of Lloyd Park’s 10 Green Flag awards and encouraged everyone to visit and enjoy all that Llyod Park has to offer.
