Mercosur referral "a rare victory for common sense"

Independent TD for Offaly Carol Nolan has welcomed the decision of the European Parliament to refer the EU Mercosur Partnership Agreement and its Interim Trade Agreement (ITA) to the European Courts of Justice (CJEU), describing it as "a rare victory for common sense.

“There is breathing space now for other Member States to take on board the concerns that many of us have been making with respect to the glaring deficits contained within the Agreements.”

“Hopefully this outbreak of common sense will find a reasonable hearing in the ECJ and that we can eventually consign the Agreement to the dustbin of EU trade history,” said Deputy Nolan.
