Offaly artist celebrates Traveller culture with glass quilt artwork

Offaly artist Michelle O'Donnell has celebrated traveller culture with a glass quilt artwork launched recently in Tullamore.

The Halting Light Project was launched at the Offaly Traveller Movement Hub in Tullamore on Friday, 23 January.

Ms O’Donnell was the recipient of the Offaly Youth Arts Award 2025, and the project was developed in close collaboration with young Traveller people and families.

Through workshops and one-to-one sessions, participants shared stories and experiences that shaped a powerful glass quilt honouring loved ones and celebrating Traveller culture.

Young people played a key role in designing and decorating the panels, inspired by a much-loved handmade quilt with deep emotional meaning.
