Tullamore native to captain Ireland team at FootGolf World Cup

Tullamore native Sami Tahraoui has been appointed captain of the Ireland team to participate at the FootGolf World Cup in Acapulco Mexico.

The tournament gets underway in May with Ireland naming a 13 player panel to compete on the global stage.

Ireland have been placed in Group A of the tournament with round robin fixtures against England, Argentina and China, prior to the start of the knockout phase of competition.

Tahraoui is entering his fifth year of FootGolf and has represented Ireland on numerous occasions.

FootGolf combines soccer and golf, where teams of typically two to four players aim to kick a soccer ball into large cups in the fewest strokes over nine or 18 holes.

Key rules include playing the ball as it lies, using turf-friendly shoes, following 'farthest-first' play order, and adhering to strict course etiquette to ensure swift pace.

The tournament has an official start date of May 27 with the the Ireland team scheduled to start their Group A fixtures on June 3.
