Offaly hurling legend features on this week's Laochra Gael

The captain of the first Offaly hurling team to win an All Ireland championship, Pádraig Horan, is the focus of attention on TG4's Laochra Gael documentary series this Thursday night (February 19).

The acclaimed Laochra Gael continues its compelling new season that shines a light on some of the most influential figures ever to grace the fields of Gaelic games.

The former St Rynagh's club player became the first Offaly hurler to lift the Liam McCarthy Cup in 1981, an achievement that marked a turning point for hurling in the county.

Admired for his determination and influence both on and off the field, he remains one of Offaly’s most respected hurling figures.

Horan played the game fearlessly, doing all he could to overcome any challenges that came his way on the field but in recent years, off the field, he has been battling a much different challenge, Parkinson's Disease.

Contributors to this week's programme include family members and many of Horan's former Faithful County playing colleagues.

Laochra Gael will be broadcast on TG4 this Thursday night at 9.30pm.
