Family share update on Clara girl after ‘life-altering’ road crash injuries
The family of Clara teenager Miya Connolly Loonam have shared an update on her condition after she suffered “life-altering” injuries in a road collision in the Offaly town in early February.
A total of €188,655 has been raised from more than 4,100 donations on a GoFundMe page set up to support Miya and her family during this challenging time.
Miya has been receiving treatment in Crumlin Children’s Hospital since the incident.
Her family thanked their community for their prayers, and all those who have donated, noting that Miya has now been discharged from ICU and is “continuing to do well in her recovery”.
“This step alone feels nothing short of a miracle. While she still faces a long road ahead and will need many surgeries, today we are holding onto hope and progress.
“Miya is regaining some independence, getting up and about using a wheelchair and has begun learning to use crutches. Watching her face each day with courage and determination has been incredibly moving.
“She is an amazing young lady whose strength continues to surprise and inspire us all. Your love and support have carried Miya and our family through the darkest moments, and we are forever grateful as we take this journey day by day.”
The family said they are also receiving professional financial guidance to ensure all funds raised are managed carefully and used appropriately to support Miya’s recovery and future needs.
They said this was always extremely important to them and that they deeply appreciate the trust placed in them.
