'Mini Credit Union' launched in three Offaly secondary schools

Tullamore Credit Union has announced the launch of its 'Mini Credit Union' initiative across three local secondary schools: Killina Presentation Secondary School, Sacred Heart School in Tullamore, and Tullamore College.

The initiative gives Transition Year students the opportunity to experience real-world financial and leadership roles by running a fully-functioning mini credit union within their school.

Students applied for a variety of positions including CEO, deputy CEO, teller, cash office personnel, and marketing roles.

Each student was interviewed by the Tullamore Credit Union member engagement team to ensure they were matched with the role that best suited their interests and skills.

At Sacred Heart School, students and teachers marked the occasion by proudly wearing purple, the signature colour representing Tullamore Credit Union itself.

Meanwhile, Killina Presentation Secondary School added a sweet touch to their launch by offering cupcakes to any student who made a lodgement on the day.

Tullamore College also celebrated the opening of its mini credit union during lunchtime, where students received Tullamore Credit Union merchandise as part of the event.

As part of the programme, the Tullamore Credit Union team also provided full training to all mini credit union staff members in each school, ensuring students are confident and fully prepared for their new responsibilities.

This initiative aims to encourage financial awareness, build leadership skills, and give students a deeper understanding of the services and community support offered by their local credit union.

Tullamore Credit Union said it was proud to support young people in the community and looked forward to seeing each school’s mini credit union grow and thrive over the coming year.

It added that it was also thrilled to launch its first student bursary, offering a total of €5,000 (€1,000 to five lucky students).

To apply, students can visit tullamorecu.ie and download the application form under the forms section. The closing date for applications is August 28.
