Offaly Rambling House event raises funds for local branch of Family Carers Ireland

Offaly Older Person’s Network celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with a very successful Rambling House event in Tullamore Rugby Club last week to support the local branch of Family Carers Ireland.

Music, song and dance was the order of the night with a host of entertainers including John, Catherine, Helen and Cathal Brady, Grainne Finnerty and Eabha Goodings who got proceedings off to a rousing start and were joined by dancer Samantha Hughes. Richard Casey entertained the audience with his beautiful singing and finished up with good advice with the old favourite ‘Four and Nine’. This was followed by a duet – Frances Kawala and Gerry Bruton singing ‘I’m Going to Jackson’.

Singer Jane Wyer is a new addition to the Rambling House scene, and she will definitely be welcome back again. She was followed by a very entertaining contribution from local comedian,. Pat Minnock, with the final act before the break being the lively Durrow Set Dancers with Martin Newton, Niamh McElduff, Elaine Delaney, Jimmy Casey, Michelle Coyne, Marie Thornton, Samantha Hughes and Michael Craven entertaining everyone.

During the break Beth Wogan from Family Carers Ireland outlined the caring supports that are available in Offaly. Beth thanked the donors of the excellent prizes for the raffle and the support from Offaly Older Person’s Network and all the attendees at the event.

After the break Fear an Ti Johnny Butterfield and friends, entertained the audience with songs, jokes and recitations, many of which would have been played throughout the years in rambling houses throughout the county. Paudge Mulhaire delivered a very witty recitation with some great romantic advice!

Molly Buckley thanked all who attended and showed their support for Family Carers, and said those wishing to find out more information about Offaly Older Person’s Network can contact Declan at 087 6991226 or dcostello@offalyldc.ie.
