Tullamore's Oisin plays his part in touch rugby success
Offaly native Oisin Moran recently played a key role as the Athlone based Buccaneers RFC triumphed at the recent All-Ireland Touch Mixed Touch Rugby Championships at the Sport Ireland Indoor Arena in Abbottstown, Dublin.
Moran was an important figure in the Buccaneers side that clinched the Liam Carroll Cup Division 2 title, scoring a crucial try in their final victory over Old Wesley Dragons.
His team went through the competition unbeaten with a 4-0 win against DLSP and draws against Old Wesley Dragons and DSC Greystones leaving them top of the table after the round robin stage. In the semi-final they took on DLSP once more and put the Dublin side to the sword, 2-0.
The final proved an exceptionally tight game and the Dragons got off to a flying start and led 2-0 early on. However, Jack Gordon hit back for Buccs before Oisín Moran got over for the equalising score. The game ended 2-2 and proceeded to extra-time 'drop-off', where both sides drop down from six to four players for a two minute period. Aoibhín Tynan put Buccs 3-2 ahead but the Dragons equalised right away. Buccs had one more chance to seize victory and Jack Gordon made no mistake, linking up with Niamh Purtill to score right at the death.
Oisín has been playing touch rugby with Buccaneers for the last year and is currently training with the Ireland U18 squad. Oisín also plays rugby with Tullamore RFC and goes to school in Tullamore College.
