E-scooter checkpoints in place across County Offaly

A national day of action on powered personal transporters takes place today (Wednesday) across County Offaly and nationwide.

Members of An Garda Síochána from Offaly will be conducting checkpoints throughout the county focusing on the use of e-scooters and e-bikes to ensure compliance with current regulations.

Checks will include ensuring operators are over 16 years of age; confirming vehicles are being used legally on roads or cycle lanes; preventing use on motorways and other unsuitable high-speed roads; enforcing restrictions on carrying passengers where prohibited and monitoring adherence to speed limits. Gardai will also be checking for required lights and reflectors.

A garda spokesperson said "all users are advised to ensure their vehicle is legal, roadworthy and used appropriately, as a failure to comply with regulations will result in fines or seizure of the vehicle".
