Tullamore's Mooney named in Ireland women's U19 squad

Tullamore student Emma Mooney has been selected in the Republic of Ireland Under 19 squad for the upcoming UEFA women's round two qualifiers in April.

Mooney featured for the Republic of Ireland women’s U17 team in their recent UEFA EURO qualifiers in Sweden, her form during these set of fixtures earning the midfielder a call up to the U19 squad.

Mooney is one of three Athlone Town players selected in the squad with defender Lucy Fitzgerald and striker Hazel Donegan all hoping to get some minutes in the green jersey during fixtures against Germany, France and Slovakia.

In order to reach the finals tournament in Bosnia & Herzegovina, the Republic of Ireland will have to come out of a difficult group.

The Republic of Ireland start their round two qualifying phase with a fixture against Germany in Essen on Friday, April 10.

Essen is also the venue for their second qualifier against France on Monday, April 13, before they conclude this phase of fixtures with a game against Slovakia in Velbert on Thursday, April 16.
