New orchard marks the start of something special in Kilcormac

Kilcormac Tidy Towns has announced that that a recent application to The Hare's Corner Initiative has proved successful.

Through the application, the Tidy Towns were awarded five native apple trees, enabling it to establish a mini-orchard in the Town Park.

Through a social media post, the Tidy Towns committee said it was delighted to share the news and that planting the trees will create a new space that will grow in beauty and value for the whole community in the years ahead. The committee said that native apple varieties are not only well-suited to the local environment, but that they also play an important role in supporting biodiversity.

“This small orchard marks the beginning of an exciting long-term project for Kilcormac. We hope to expand it year after year, adding more trees and creating a lasting resource that future generations can enjoy. It’s a wonderful example of what can be achieved through community effort and environmental awareness, and we look forward to seeing it flourish into a vibrant feature of our town,” the Tidy Towns committee said.

Meanwhile, the Kilcormac annual Spring clean has also been organised for Monday, April 13 at 7.30pm, where large numbers will again be expected to attend. The meeting point for those taking part will be at the local Community Centre.
