Beomhar musicians achieve success on national stage

A talented group of young musicians from Offaly and Laois, Beomhar, achieved an exceptional second-place finish at the prestigious Siansa Gael Linn National Final in the National Concert Hall on Sunday.

Organised by Gael Linn, Siansa Gael Linn is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s premier competitions for young performers of traditional Irish music. Groups from across the country progress through regional rounds to reach the national final, where standards are exceptionally high.

Representing Comhaltas branches from Ballyboy, Birr, Camross, Portlaoise, Beomhar delivered a powerful and authentic musical performance rooted firmly in Irish tradition. Their programme featured a song exclusively in the Irish language, highlighting a strong commitment to cultural heritage.

A number of the group members are also participants in Laois Music Generation, further reflecting the strong support structures in place locally to nurture young musical talent.

The group was guided by their mentor, Siobhán Buckley, whose expertise and flair were evident in the group’s polished and confident performance.

The members of Beomhar brought together a rich variety of instrumental and vocal talents.

The group comprised of Fionnán Dalton on banjo, mandolin and vocals; Lila Nolan on fiddle; Jack Higgins on accordion, melodeon; Kiêu Conroy on harp; Áine Kinsella on fiddle; Lucy Molloy on flute, tin whistle, vocals; Polly Nolan on piano and vocals and Taidhg Dalton on guitar, flute and vocals.

Siansa Gael Linn continues to play a vital role in promoting Irish music and culture among young people. It offers participants a unique opportunity to develop performance skills, collaborate as an ensemble, and engage deeply with Ireland’s artistic traditions.

The success of Beomhar shows the strength of traditional music across both counties and the commitment of local Comhaltas groups, families, and initiatives such as Laois Music Generation.

Securing second place at a national level is a remarkable achievement. Beomhar have not only represented their counties with distinction but have also showcased the vibrancy of Irish-language performance and traditional music among young people today. Their success will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of musicians across the Midlands .
