Over €19.5k investment announced for Crinkle playground refurb

An investment of over €19.5k has been announced for the Grove Street playground in Crinkle.

Fine Gael TD for Offaly, Deputy John Clendennen has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Children, Disability and Equality of funding under the Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation, which will see €19,562 invested in the extension and refurbishment of the children’s playground at Grove Street.

He explained that the funding had been awarded to Offaly County Council as part of a total of €600,000 to support 30 Local Authority projects nationwide.

The scheme supports the work of Local Authorities in improving access to quality play and recreation facilities within their communities.

This can be through the refurbishment and upgrade of existing facilities or through the development of new ones. The scheme offers funding of up to €22,000 per project, an investment that will see positive impacts delivered to children and families across the country.

Deputy Clendennen said: “This is very welcome funding for Crinkle and the surrounding area. Investment in local playgrounds is an investment in our children, our families and our communities. The upgrade and extension of the Grove Street playground will provide a safe, modern space where children can play, socialise and learn.

“The benefits of outdoor play for children are well known – it’s good for their health, they can make new friends, it inspires the imagination and brings excitement into young lives.”

The scheme, first introduced in 2013, requires Local Authorities to provide matched funding of at least 25%, ensuring strong local commitment and value for money.

Deputy Clendennen also acknowledged the work of Offaly County Council in securing the funding.

“I commend Offaly County Council in putting forward a strong application, securing funding and their continued commitment to improving local amenities.

"I would encourage them to continue working with local communities to ensure all of our playgrounds can be maintained to a high standard. I look forward to seeing the completed project in Crinkle. I know this project will have a major impact on the vibrancy of our local community.”
