Gardaí from Laois/Offaly partner with Laois Domestic Abuse Service for Go Purple Day

In preparation for Go Purple Day, Gardaí from Laois/Offaly, in partnership with Laois Domestic Abuse Service, held a domestic violence awareness workshop in the Laois Civil Defence Offices yesterday (Thursday).

Go Purple Day takes place today, Friday, May 15.

Professionals from a number of support agencies from across both Laois and Offaly came together to take part in the ‘In Their Shoes’ workshop.

This exercise asks participants to walk in the shoes of victim/survivors of domestic violence as they try and navigate their way to safety.

Participants gained an insight into the barriers, fears and challenges victims face each day. This workshop was a great opportunity for partner agencies to share invaluable knowledge and experience.

A walk took place from Portlaoise Parish Centre this morning followed by tea and coffee and stalls will be available in both Lyster Square, Portlaoise and the Bridge Centre, Tullamore in order to spread awareness of Domestic Abuse.

‘In Their Shoes’ was developed by the DKIT River Project.
