Offaly History Centre planning tour of Shannonbridge sites

Offaly History Centre's first summer tour of 2026 will be taking place in Shannonbridge on Saturday, May 23.

The tour will depart from the centre in Tullamore at 10am, and people are asked to contact the centre (info@offalyhistory.com or 057 9321421) if they can share transport or need a lift.

The group will meet at Shannonbridge at the Old Fort across the Bridge at 11am.

The tour guide is Declan Ryan, and it will start with coffee, followed by tours of the forts, the river and the town.

The tour will then conclude at about 1.30pm with lunch at Killeen’s (attendees should book this themselves).

Offaly History Centre said Declan will be an excellent guide on the day, and it noted that sturdy footwear will be required for uneven ground and long wet grass.
