Staff members to undertake charity challenges for Tullamore RehabCare
Staff members at RehabCare Tus Nua Resource Centre in Tullamore are taking on two exciting fundraising challenges this summer in support of the people who attend the service.
On May 31, Teresa Crowe, a community support worker with the service, will participate in the VHI Mini-Marathon to raise funds for RehabCare Tus Nua.
Teresa has worked with Tus Nua for the past 18 months and enjoys keeping active through regular 5km runs. She decided to take on the mini-marathon as a personal challenge to build up to 10km while also supporting the important work carried out by the service.
“Every step taken is an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of the people supported by Tus Nua,” Teresa said.
RehabCare Tus Nua currently supports 36 adults with intellectual disabilities, physical and sensory disabilities, autism, and mental health challenges to live fuller, more independent lives and feel valued within their communities.
Funds raised will help provide meaningful opportunities and experiences that build confidence, develop skills, and promote well-being. This year, the service hopes to purchase outdoor gym equipment to further encourage active and healthy lifestyles for service users.
The fundraising efforts will continue on July 10 when three Tus Nua staff members, Alannah Quinn, Peig Carrigan and Amy Ballesty participate in a sponsored skydive.
The team says they are stepping well outside their comfort zone to support the people who attend the centre every day.
“The money raised will go directly toward essential resources and community-based activities that help our service users stay connected and active in the local area,” they said.
The staff at RehabCare Tus Nua are appealing to the local community for support as they work toward their fundraising goals.
