Local man featured in new LGBTQ+ Recovery Anthology

Ciaran Hanniffy, a recovery advocate and psychotherapy student, is set to be featured in the forthcoming anthology, Queer Recovery Capital, which launches across Ireland and the UK on June 23.

The book brings together diverse voices from across the LGBTQ+ community, highlighting lived experiences of recovery and the unique pathways individuals navigate. Hanniffy’s contribution reflects on his personal journey, from his early life in Doon, to his ongoing recovery and efforts to give back, including fundraising for the organisation that supported him. Ciaran is the son of former Offaly County Councillor Constance Hanniffy.

Edited by Dr David Patton, Associate Professor in Criminology at the University of Derby and founder of New Central Media, Queer Recovery Capital aims to address a significant gap in recovery narratives. The collection emphasises that LGBTQ+ individuals have always been part of the recovery landscape, yet their stories have often been overlooked or marginalised.

The book explores how recovery capital is shaped not only by personal effort but by broader factors including identity, stigma, community, belonging, and the systems individuals must navigate. For LGBTQ+ people, these pathways can differ in meaningful ways that the anthology seeks to understand, centre, and celebrate.
