Profile of a Parkrunner: Meet Matt

Meet Matt Corcoran, from Walsh Island, who recently completed his 100th parkrun at Mountlucas parkrun.

When did you first complete a parkrun?

I completed my first parkrun in 2018 which seems a long time ago now. I have taken a few breaks along the way and volunteered a number of times. The support and encouragement of all parkrunners is the main driver to keep me coming back.

What's your favourite thing about parkrun?

My favourite part of parkrun is meeting other parkrunners. I am also in the privileged position where my mother, Rita Corcoran, is also a regular parkrunner. In fact, she is way ahead of me in the number of parkruns reached with almost 300 runs under her belt! This demonstrates the inclusiveness of Mountlucas parkrun. It is for all ages and abilities.

How does it feel to have reached the significant milestone of 100 parkruns?

It feels great to reach this milestone and I look forward to completing the next 100. Hopefully it won’t take me as long to reach 200!!!

What is your favourite parkrun memory?

I have many favourite parkrun memories. Seeing my mother being so fit and healthy and crossing the line and achieving each of her milestones has to rank among my favourite.

What words would you use to describe Mountlucas parkrun?

It is a relaxed, social event and set in a unique landscape surrounded by the wind turbines and the sounds and smells of nature.
